Fun, Football and Festivals for Heathcotes Humberston!
Residents of Heathcotes’ Humberston services in Grimsby have been bonding through a variety of group activities, from football to festivals!
A fun week started at a local park as Heathcotes support workers organised an afternoon kickabout for NO, MD, ET and LG. After a very enjoyable and competitive game, staff and service users talked about arranging matches with other Heathcotes services. It could be the makings of a Heathcotes mini league!
Later in the week, service users headed out for some seaside air with a visit to Cleethorpes. NO swapped his regular wheelchair for a hired beach chair to make the most of the resort’s wide expanses of sand. The trip coincided with town’s inaugural Festival of the Sky, a new event celebrating art and culture with a diverse programme of events, including bespoke installations, workshops and live performances.
Heathcotes’ Humberston provision offers a choice of full-time residential care services or independent supported living apartments for service users who struggle to live with others. Providing self-contained accommodation that benefits from the availability of support 24/7, the independent supported living is also suitable for service users who are ready to step down from full-time residential care with a view to developing their independence.
Humberston Service Manager, Kirsty Isted, said:
“Our full-time residential care services provide a group environment that enables service users to develop friendships with other residents, but these activities demonstrate how our independent supported living also provides opportunities for greater social inclusion and interaction. ET and LG are very new to our Humberston services, but they are already getting on so well. Our support team did some great work in organising the activities and accompanying our service users on each outing.”
