Valuing People

Valuing People Now was published in January 2009, and set out the Government’s strategy for people with learning disabilities for the next three years. Heathcotes Care is committed to the transformation of social care services; we consider Valuing People Now as a roadmap for the future development of our organisation and the services we provide.

In March 2009, the government produced guidance on making Valuing People Now happen locally and regionally, outlining some key actions for local authorities, service planners and service providers.
As a service provider, we’re proud to have fully implemented the following recommendations:

  • Person Centred Care Planning; everyone we support has a comprehensive person centred care plan that is used to review and continuously improve the support we provide.
  • the requirement to develop accessible materials to help people with learning disabilities and their families to understand their rights and how to complain
  • full implementation of Health Action Planning for everyone using our services
  • Involving people with learning disabilities in workforce development and training
  • We’re excited to be working towards these additional key actions;
  • new approaches to enable service users to build and sustain relationships
  • a better understanding of personal budgets and direct payments, to enhance the support we deliver
  • a continued focus on meaningful leisure and social activities
  • recognizing our contribution to the reduction of hate crime against people with learning disabilities
  • We believe that high quality, person centred residential services have an important place in the continuum of care for people with learning disabilities, complex needs and associated challenging behaviours; Heathcotes aim to be the provider of choice.
