Rachel and John have recently found a long distance course in Journalism which is working really well. This is because he doesn’t have to go to College and be around people, which is a great fear for him because he can get very anxious when he thinks people are looking at him.

The weather hasn’t been nice so I haven’t been out for many walks but still doing lots of activities,

I made some scones and put jam on them, I have eaten them all now but did share them with people at the mansion. Heathcotes takes great pride in informing you about our new service we are opening in Wakefield for people with complex and challenging needs. Our aim is to create a broad and flexible service which meets and adapts to the changing needs and personal goals of the people using the service.

At the core of this service are two purpose-built specialist residential homes. We know that some individuals benefit from the residential model of care. However we feel that what sets Heathcotes apart is that we are committed to developing pathways into independence and into the community for people using our services

The home has been specially designed to optimise independence with spacious bedrooms that can be equipped to become self-contained studios with cooking facilities,  should it be required.  Our goal is to enable people the opportunity to have clear pathways to move on in life and gain life skills. Heathcotes is committed to providing services that offer real opportunities. We have 17 sites across central England and have successfully supported many individuals, allowing them to have more independent lives.

We are in the process of developing an adjacent building which we will convert into "move on" cluster flats. From there, we would hope to offer people further opportunities through our domiciliary support and crisis response service. Based within Heathcotes this enables individuals consistency and specialised staffing throughout their move into independent life.

On the day of the challenge, Matthew and Jake were very excited to take up the 1 mile challenge.  They both looked the part with their participant numbers pinned to their tops and their walking shoes on.  We arrived at Leicester Forest RFC and lined up and the start line with the crowd of people.  Matt and Jake did the whole distance with determination and didn’t stop once.  Walking past the finish line, they got cheers and claps and were awarded with a medal for completing their challenge.   From both Matthew and Jakes hard work and the generosity of staff, friends and family they helped raised over £30 for sport relief.

Safety was explained to Tom and Andy regarding the various tools we were going to use and the ladders. Then we started on our journey to the unknown.

Tom and Andy were fantastic. Tom helped measure the paper we were going to hang and Andrew pasted the paper. After only a few pieces hung it started to take shape and Tom and Andy were pleased with the results. Tom helped with smoothing the paper on the walls while Andy picked up all the excess pieces off the floor and tidied as we went along.

When the papering was done and the painting finished Tom and Andy helped place all the furniture back and they could sit back and enjoy what they had done.

Heathcotes Balby is a stunning, purpose built home, situated in a quiet crescent in the residential outskirts of Balby, Doncaster. The service provides accommodation for eight adults and features a lovely, spacious lounge with an adjacent sun room, a large dining room and a well-equipped kitchen. An amazing games room on the second floor provides opportunities for pool, table tennis and other activities, or the opportunity to relax on beanbags away from the day to day activities of home life. The outside space is equally impressive, featuring a huge garden on three sides of the house.

This home has developed an excellent reputation for working with individuals who may have challenged other services, and for providing community access and social inclusion opportunities in circumstances that are not always straightforward; our Registered Manager together with the dedicated staff team, has created a service that has integrated well into the local community and delivered genuine quality of life improvements for people using the service.
