Heathcotes Flanshaw is a specialist residential service for adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome who may have dual diagnoses and associated complex needs. Heathcotes Flanshaw has 8 ensuite and provides twenty four hour support.
Individual’s with Prader-Willi Syndrome feel hungry constantly and need an environment where food is monitored and controlled but where choice is promoted as freely as possible. Heathcotes Flanshaw provides a structured menu which is designed and reviewed by nutritionists and portion sizes are tailored to each individual’s weight. Meals and drinks have set times so each service user know when to expect food and drink and the service provides an extensive range of activities to ensure service users remain active. Service users also receive input from a Clinical Psychologist where appropriate.
The service provides a large communal lounge and kitchen diner with access to a large garden area with rabbits and guinea pigs. There are ground floor bedrooms available and a shared bathroom in addition to the ensuite shower rooms. Heathcotes Flanshaw has Wi-Fi throughout allowing service users to stay in touch with family and friends, access e learning and use the internet.
Heathcotes Flanshaw is situated in a residential area in Wakefield and close to a wealth of community facilities including local shops, sporting facilities and leisure facilitates.
There are many opportunities for service users to develop new skills with several colleges in the area providing accessible courses. Individuals are encouraged to take part in the running of the household including budgeting and shopping.
The service has excellent transport links and is just a few minutes’ walk from the railway station and close to major bus routes with links to surrounding areas.
