Garden project

26th Oct 2011

Alan, who lives at Heathcotes Knollbeck, has been busy in the garden in recent weeks, building his own aviary for a very special new resident; a little owl! Alan has 11 years experience of caring for small animals, particularly birds of prey, and has achieved a diploma recognising his achievement and specialist knowledge in that field. He also volunteers at an owl sanctuary, and has taken on responsibility for looking after the home's growing menagerie - chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and fish!

Kev Wilburn, Heathcotes Support Worker who has worked on the project with Alan said, "This has been a fantastic learning experience for me - Alan really knows his stuff and I've learned an awful about the owl in preparation for it's arrival; I can't wait!"

Lynsey Hutson, Registered Manager at Heathcotes Knollbeck, said, "Alan is a very knowledgeable young man and we're very proud of his achievements since moving in with us; not only has he helped to transform our garden, but he's been supported to start maths and english courses at Dearne Valley College." Lynsey continued, "He's a real go-getter - an example to us all!"
