A surprise visitor!

8th Dec 2011

A recent visitor to Heathcotes Knollbeck in Barnsley is a sign of how some people can use high quality residential care as a genuine stepping stone to the future.

Dave was the first person to move in at Heathcotes Knollbeck, arriving on a very stressful Xmas Eve in 2009 as an emergency placement. Since then, Dave went from strength to strength, learning new skills and overcoming many challenges on his way to his new life, including auditioning on more than one occasion for the X Factor!

Dave is now living in his own supported flat in Barnsley and is making plans to get married - he is also expecting his first child. After going to see his baby's first scan Dave wanted to come and share this experience with some of the people that helped him on his journey to a new life.

Barry Price, Heathcotes Regional Manager for the Northern Region who was Heathcotes Knollbeck's first Registered Manager said, "It's so nice to see how someone with the right support can move on to independent living - Dave should be so proud of his hard work and achievements, including still going to college to study drama and theatre studies."

Melvin Fellows, David's former Key Worker added, "To see how David's life has changed from when I first started working with him is incredible - I'm proud to have been part of this success story and I wish Dave all the very best for the future."
