The long walk....
In March two of our service users at Heathcotes Glenfield took up the challenge to walk 1 mile to raise money for Sport relief. After seeing all the excitement around Sport relief this year, I thought it was a great opportunity to put the challenge forward to some of our service users, and they took to it straight away! Matthew took charge with gaining sponsorship, and did a great job selling the cause to everyone, explaining he wanted to ‘help the children get some food’.
On the day of the challenge, Matthew and Jake were very excited to take up the 1 mile challenge. They both looked the part with their participant numbers pinned to their tops and their walking shoes on. We arrived at Leicester Forest RFC and lined up and the start line with the crowd of people. Matt and Jake did the whole distance with determination and didn’t stop once. Walking past the finish line, they got cheers and claps and were awarded with a medal for completing their challenge. From both Matthew and Jakes hard work and the generosity of staff, friends and family they helped raised over £30 for sport relief.
Brendan Kelly Head of Operations said "this was an excellent effort by the lads and just shows real social inclusion"
