Dave gets on his bike!

28th May 2012

At Heathcotes Care, we're always looking for ways to improve the rewards and benefits on offer to our team members. As part of that initiative, we introduced the Busy Bees Cycle to Work scheme in 2011 and have been really pleased with the take-up so far.

Cycling is a healthy, environmentally friendly way to travel to work, as well as being very cost effective. The price of a bike and equipment can be prohibitive however, so the HMRC approved Cycle to Work initiative enables employees to buy a tax-free cycle, making a saving of up to 32%.

Head of Operations Brendan Kelly said, "I'm a keen cyclist, so I guess I had a vested interest in making the Cycle to Work scheme available to our employees - cycling is a fantastic form of exercise and I'm a firm believer that a healthy workforce is a happy one!" He added, "I was really pleased to bump into Dave Hamnett recently, a Support Worker at Heathcotes Phoenix, who cycles to work every day on his brand new Scott mountain bike, purchased through the scheme; I was also a bit jealous - it's a lovely bike!"

Dave is enjoying cycling so much that he's entered the Manchester Great Cycle Ride, the UK's biggest ever timed cycle ride on closed roads; he'll be riding 52 miles on his new steed and everyone at Heathcotes Care would like to wish him the best of luck!

Angela Nash, Director of Finance added, "I'm pleased to announce that we'll be continuing with the Cycle to Work scheme for the coming year - it's a fantastic deal and we hope that Dave's story inspires more people to get on their bikes!"
