Race for Life!

26th Jun 2012

Staff and service users from Heathcotes Bridlington completed the Race For Life at Sewerby Hall in Bridlington on Sunday 24th June 2012.

Race for Life is the UK's largest women-only fundraising event and it has made a huge impact on Cancer Research UK's work. There are over 240 Race for Life events across the UK every year.

Deputy Manager Gemma Hollingsworth who took part said, "This has now become an annual event for Heathcotes Bridlington - it's a great cause to raise money for and the fish and chip lunch afterwards gives us a real incentive to finish the race!"

Heathcotes Bridlington is a specialist residential home providing care for adults with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Prader-Willi Syndrome is a rare disorder related to an abnormality on the 15th chromosome. It typically causes low muscle tone, short stature if not treated with growth hormone, incomplete sexual development, and a chronic feeling of hunger that, coupled with a metabolism that utilizes drastically fewer calories than normal, can lead to excessive eating and life-threatening obesity.

Barry Price, Heathcotes Regional Manager said, "Promoting exercise and healthy lifestyle choices is important in all of our services, but especially so at Bridlington - I'm really proud of all the participants and would like to congratulate them on a fantastic achievement!"
