Heathcotes Knollbeck have been getting all green fingered of late.  The pride and joy of the service is the spectacular garden, the sucess of which has been a huge team effort with everyone living at the home contributing in some way; some during the planning and design stages, with others getting stuck into painting, whilst planting and seeding was the preferred activity for some!  The garden is tended to soley by Heathcotes Knollbeck service users, with support from dedicated staff.

The garden boasts 3 separate areas, one of which is home to the 6 resident chickens and also contains apple trees, the middle section with a raised pond and seating area, whilst the third section houses a poly tunnel where residents and staff are growing tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes and peppers.  Adjacent to the the poly tunnel, there are also strawberries, mint, chives and basil, whilst in the vegetable patch there is rhubarb, beetroot, spring onions, Spanish onions, sprouts, savoy cabbage and horse radish - there's also room somewhere in there for a plum tree and a paddling pool in the summer months!

Lynsey Hutson, Heathcotes Knollbeck Manager said, 'I am really proud of our garden.  Our staff have been amazing in supporting the service users to help it to flourish; we've had no professional gardener, handy man, or any outside help at all and the end result is just fantastic – in fact, Brendan Kelly (Director of Operations) said he loves visiting Heathcotes Knollbeck as it is just like The Good Life!'.

From simple house chores, to cutting the grass, or attending a football match - our programmes give real choice and opportunities.  For more information on the services we offer, please call 01246 556453 or click here to send your enquiry via our website.  To discuss your specific needs or make a referral to any of services, please contact our Operations Co-ordinator, Kathie Devenish on 07734 997639.
