The Great Phoenix Bake off!
The Derbyshire High Peak was the setting for ultimate baking battle last week; Phoenix House, Phoenix Cottages and Phoenix Lodge (Heathcotes New Mills) got their bake on and went head to head in the 'The Great Phoenix Bake Off'! Armed with flour, butter, sugar and copious amounts of chocolate, service users and staff got to work pushing their culinary expertise to the limit as they fought to whisk, pipe and sprinkle their way to baking success.
The light and fun atmosphere of the event which was attended by service users, staff and parents, couldn't disguise the sense of real competition, with our bakers all keen to showcase their sweet treats. The day was a memorable occasion - not least thanks to the critique offered by the judges - our very own Mary Berry (Home Manager, Mags Roberts), and Paul Hollywood (Ross Hodgson, Regional Manager), who both seemed to enjoy tasting the 3 tables full of delectable goodies... perhaps a little too much, with both feeling decidedly queasy after an afternoon of sugar sampling!
Mags said, 'It was a lovely event. Everyone really got into the spirit of the day and I'm really pleased we were able to raise some funds for two very worthy causes in the process. I would like to thank everyone who took part, whether it was baking, helping out or coming along and joining in the fun'.
