Thursday's Employee Focus features Roy Cusworth, Acting Team Leader at Heathcotes Knollbeck:

Roy started work at Heathcotes Knollbeck in June 2012.  Prior to this Roy had worked as a slaughter man for nearly 30 years and had no previous experience in the care industry.  Roy started out his career at Heathcotes as a support worker and has since progressed to acting Team leader. He has often proved that he is willing go the extra mile for the service users that live at Heathcotes Knollbeck.  Roy likes to get as many as the service users who were interested and who want to be involved in activities as possible - one such activity is the garden.  This includes not just the general maintenance of the garden, but also involving service users in planting and growing a variety of vegetables which are then used and cook in the home.  Roy will support service users to focus on different jobs and different vegetables, so everyone knows their individual areas of responsibility.

Roy was instrumental in arranging a work placement for one of Knollbeck's service users, who went on to help out with the animals at a local farm.  Roy was also heavily involved last year with Knollbeck's first service user holiday abroad.  Roy and another staff member supported a service user for a week in Benidorm. The holiday was a great success, so much so that a return trip has recently been booked for the service user to go again in September.

Each week Roy will go and do the meat shop for Knollbeck as he wants the service users to have the best quality meat but at with the best value for money.  Roy sources the meat in his own time and the pork pies have become legendary throughout the company!  In his spare time, Roy enjoys spending time with family and friends... and shopping for pork pies!

Tomorrow we shine the spotlight on Scott Berman, a member of our support staff from Heathcotes Watnall.
