On 12 July 2014 Heathcotes Wakefield paid a visit to Thornes Park to take part in the Colour Run in aid of Wakefield Hospice. The Colour Run™ is a unique un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colours at each kilometre. The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Colour Festival,” using more coloured powder - the event calls itself 'The happiest 5k on the planet!'.

Several service users from Heathcotes Agbrigg and Sandal, along with their support workers, took on this fabulous event which was the first event of its kind to be organised in the Wakefield area.

With the sun beaming down, the hot and humid conditions weren't exactly ideal for our athletes, but their personal cheer team made up of other service users and support workers certainly enjoyed the weather, soaking up both the sunshine and the warm atmosphere!  It was so hot that our regional manager, along with two other participants, had to make a pit stop half way round for a restorative ice lolly!  The sugar hit clearly gave the runners an energy boost to make the final push, as all our participants successfully crossed the finish line.

Amelia Hallas, our ice lolly eating Regional Manager, said of the event, "It was a fun packed day and well organised, a great atmosphere with a sense of achievement.  After the run everyone stayed for a picnic lunch in the park and encouraged those still completing the course.  I'm exceptionally proud of everyone who took part today, it's been a very memorable experience for all involved."

Our runners are still fundraising for the hospice at the moment, once they have their grand total we will let you know!
