Heathcotes to open residential Personality Disorder service

18th Aug 2015

The Heathcotes Group will be opening two purpose built, specialist residential services for people with a Learning Disability and co-morbid Personality Disorder. The new services will be located in Leeds and Nottingham and are due to open late 2015.

The service will be led by Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Peter Burbidge, and will have input from a Specialist Occupational Therapist. The treatment will be based on the bio-social model of Personality Disorder and will include the full Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) programme.

Dr Burbidge said, “I am very excited about joining the Heathcotes team and developing an innovative new service for people with Learning Disabilities and Personality Disorder.  I have previously set up and run a community DBT team in Hull and I am looking forward to the new challenge of delivering this treatment in a residential setting. I have also previously worked in a rehabilitation hospital for service users with Learning Disabilities, ASC and Personality Disorders and have seen first-hand how difficult it can be to find appropriate accommodation and placements that enable service users to get appropriate treatment outside of a hospital setting. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work with Heathcotes to date and am looking forward to taking on this challenging new role.”

David Harrison, Chief Executive Officer at the Heathcotes Group said, “We have developed a great deal of expertise in supporting service users with a Learning Disability and a Personality Disorder over the years and we are thrilled that Peter has joined us as Clinical Lead. Our services will enable service users to move on from hospital placements and receive treatment for Personality Disorder in the least restrictive environment and in a homely setting.”
