We are delighted to announce that Dr Peter Burbidge will join the Heathcotes team as Head of Psychology and Clinical Lead in October 2015. Peter will be responsible for developing and running our new specialist residential service for service users with Learning Disabilities and Personality Disorder.

Peter trained in Hull and has worked as Principal Clinical Psychologist in a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) for the last six years where he specialised in working with people diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. He was also responsible for setting up, developing and running the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) team and last year he obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in DBT from Bangor University.

Peter wrote his doctoral thesis on Asperger’s syndrome and Autism. He has also had specialist training in the diagnosis and treatment of people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and is a registered user of the Diagnostic Interview for Social Communication Disorders (DISCO).

Peter has worked with Heathcotes on a consultancy basis over the last three years, providing psychological assessments and interventions in our specialist Autism service in Whitley, North Yorkshire and our Prader-Willi Syndrome service in Bridlington.

On his appointment, Peter said,“I am very excited about joining the Heathcotes team and developing an innovative new service for people with a Personality Disorder. I have worked in a rehabilitation hospital for people with Learning Disabilities, ASC and Personality Disorders and have seen first-hand how difficult it can be to find appropriate accommodation and placements that enable service users to move on from a hospital setting. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work with Heathcotes to date and am looking forward to taking on this challenging new role.”

David Harrison, Chief executive Officer at the Heathcotes Group said, “I am delighted that Peter has decided to join us and develop our new Personality Disorder services. Peter has achieved excellent outcomes at our services in North Yorkshire and Bridlington so I am confident that he will do the same again.”

Peter is an Associate Fellow at the British Psychological Society, BPS Chartered Clinical Psychologist No 158707 and is registered with The Health and Care Professions Council HPC No PYL03125.
