Wakefield awarded 'Good' following CQC Inspection

11th Mar 2016

Wakefield 2

We are delighted to announce that we have received another positive CQC inspection, this time at our service in Wakefield. Inspectors made an unannounced visit to Heathcotes Wakefield in February 2016 and reported that the service is 'warm and welcoming'.

The report highlighted that "The staff team worked well as a team and communicated effectively to pass on information they needed to keep everyone safe, without people who used the service feeling they were being talked about".  A family member reported, "I can't praise the managers and the staff team here enough. They have been outstanding with (relative); they made more progress with them in a short time than anyone else ever has.  An individual using our service commented, "The managers are all brilliant, they always chat to me and ask me what I have been doing."

Health professionals involved in the care of the people we support were also consulted: "The registered manager is really good. They always make time to have a meeting with me when I come into the service, so they know what is happening with people who use the service." "The service is really pro-active; they are always suggesting and trying new ways to help people. The thing I like most about the service though is that they don't give up
at the first hurdle like a lot of places do, they persevere and make a real difference to the lives of the people they support."

The inspectors noted that the team was committed to the continuous improvement of the service Heathcotes was providing.  The report also highlighted that people's privacy was maintained and their individuality was recognised and supported.
People were encouraged to be as independent as they were able.

Joanne Coe, Service Manager, said, “I am proud of the support we provide at Heathcotes Wakefield and I am delighted that the hard work to achieve positive outcomes has been reflected in this report.  It is very motivating to hear so many positive comments from our service users and their families - it reinforces how important our jobs are when we hear how happy they are.  It's fantastic that we have been awarded ‘Good’ in all 5 inspection areas, and myself and the team will keep on striving towards continuous improvement as we aim to achieve 'outstanding' in the next inspection!"
