Wordsmith DS is poetry in emotion!
At Heathcotes we always like to encourage our service users to express themselves. It’s an important step in the understanding of emotions and how we can best manage them. Usually, that expression is verbal, but in one recent example, a service user decided to put his thoughts on paper with a beautifully written poem.
DS lives at Taylor View in Nottingham, our specialist residential service for adults with learning disabilities, mental health, dual diagnosis and associated complex needs. DS has been through some extremely challenging times, but he has developed a very positive outlook during his ongoing journey to recovery. His positivity has inspired a poem which expresses the essence of recovery from mental health issues and what it means to him. As well as impressing staff and other service users at Taylor View, the poetry also brought a tear to the eye of a visiting CQC inspector!
Here’s the hand-written copy of the poem – it contains some wise words and advice that apply to all of us!
