In-House Short Courses
We deliver a range of in-house training, some of which is provided according to the needs of the people we support. We make the most of the expertise within our company and some are delivered by suitably qualified senior staff (e.g. with a nursing qualification). For example:
- Autism (Based on the latest NAS training materials)
- Epilepsy & Administration of Buccal Midazolam*
- Hoist Training*
- Social Inclusion Training (Using the NDT’s training pack)
- Safe Handling of Medication* (Basic course based on the use of Boot’s MDS)
- Person Centred Planning
- Introduction to Leadership
- Self-Injury (Using ‘Hidden Pain’ – research-based training pack)
*These courses are always delivered by a qualified nurse (RNLD)
Personal Development Plans
All of our staff have regular supervisions and an annual appraisal - the personal development plan (PDP) being a key element.
We are committed to Heathcotes being a developmental organisation i.e. an employer that seeks to develop its staff to enable them to meet their full potential. We believe this is the correct strategy if we aim to have an equally committed and motivated team who work towards meeting the needs and aspirations of the people we support.
Accordingly, we are proud of our record in terms of staff retention and equally proud to have seen some staff develop from support workers and rise through the ranks into management positions.
Responding to Service Needs and Person-Centred Approaches
We have developed a close relationship between staff training and the needs of the individuals that we support. Where there is an identified need, we will develop or source appropriate training for our staff. There are many examples of this in practice. Our belief is that to be person-centred as an organisation, every department including training must be responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people we support.
