AK is a local celebrity!
A resident at Heathcotes’ Knollbeck services has become something of a local celebrity after appearing in the newspaper!
The article in the Dearne Valley Weekender featured service user, AK, as one of a group of volunteers celebrating their part in the restoration of Brampton Church clock tower, made possible by a fundraising push involving local events and donations received from the public. Volunteers and church members led the effort to raise the money necessary to repair the tower, enabling the church bells to ring out again after a period of disuse.
AK’s involvement came about after support staff at Heathcotes Knollbeck arranged for him to take up a work placement at the church, where he carries out weekly duties including grounds maintenance, helping out in the café and serving drinks to other volunteers and church members. AK was a valued member of the fundraising team and he was front and centre on the photo which appeared on the Dearne Valley Weekender’s front page!
Jodie Bramhall, Service Manager at Knollbeck, congratulated AK on his new-found fame:
“We were very excited when we heard that AK was going to be photographed by the local newspaper and we were delighted to see it appear on the front page! Volunteer work at the church has been hugely beneficial in promoting AK’s social inclusion and involvement in community activities. The church has been very welcoming and he has really enjoyed spending time there. The church members were very complimentary about AK’s enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.”
Great work, AK – sounds like you got a ringing endorsement!
