AB’s pedal power smashes cycling challenge!
Heathcotes’ Carrington Park services have set a cycling challenge inviting residents to complete a ‘virtual journey’ to our head office, taking in the other Nottinghamshire services en route.
The Covid-19 restrictions prevent service users from attempting the real thing, so the staff worked out the mileage of each leg to be recorded on a recumbent exercise bike. To track progress, they also put together a wall display showing the distances between Carrington Park, Mapperely Lodge, Blenheim Mount, Basford, Arnold, Taylor and Gilbert, Hucknall and Watnall, Moorgreen, Mansfield and our head office in Chesterfield.
Staff suggested that the service users take turns to cycle each leg and complete the full 36.5-mile journey in stages. AB was the first to hop on the bike and set off determined to make a flying start. She applied some serious pedal power and stuck to the task with incredible tenacity. Amazingly, AB carried on and made it all the way to the finish line – in just over four hours!
Louise Duffield, Service Manager Carrington Park, said:
“So it turns out we have a professional cyclist at Carrington Park – AB smashed the challenge! It was a brilliant effort. She really pushed herself and everyone is very impressed at how quickly she reached the destination. The exercise bike will remain available for anyone else at Carrington Park who fancies taking part in the challenge, either individually or as part of a team. As for AB, we have decided to give her another challenge – next time, she will be doing a virtual cycle to Skegness!”
