Staff push the boat out for CL’s 40th!
As service user at Heathcotes Balby marked a big milestone with a trip to the seaside this week as CL celebrated his 40th birthday!
CL is very popular at Balby. When the service opened in 2010, he was the first service user to move in and he is well liked by the staff and his fellow residents. Aware of the significance of the date, the Balby support team decided to plan a special day worthy of the occasion.
Concerns over Covid-19 made them wary of any activities involving crowds and enclosed spaces, so they decided against throwing a big party and instead organised a celebration in the open air at Scarborough beach. Two support staff, Chelsey Grainger and Jodie Bunney, accompanied CL for some fun in the sand followed by a birthday meal. Having filled their bellies, the three headed out on a boat trip to take in the coastal scenery.
After a fantastic day out, CL returned home to find the other service users ready to celebrate with him! They presented cards, gifts and a delicious cake as everyone joined in the traditional Happy Birthday singalong.
Many happy returns to CL and well done to the staff at Balby for making his big day so memorable – you really pushed the boat out!
